My first portrait was a memorial.

Ten years ago I was working at Starbucks and wanted something to paint. A coworker had just lost the family dog, Tyson, and asked if I would paint him. I’ve been painting people’s animals ever since, and a lot of that work is for the ones they miss.

Every portrait is acrylic on canvas, in realism, with the fur, color and texture matched to your photo by hand. No filters, no prints.

How it works

1. Send the photo you love most

A phone photo is fine, and so is a photo of a print. If you have a few, send them all. If a photo is too small or blurry to paint well, I’ll tell you honestly before you pay anything.

2. Tell me about them

Their name, what they were like, the look you want to remember. I can paint their name into the portrait too, like Chloe’s name on her collar.

3. See it as it comes together

I plan the composition on my iPad first, then send progress photos at every stage, so you can ask for changes early.

4. At your pace

There is no rush. If you’d like it by a certain date, an anniversary or a birthday, tell me and I’ll plan around it. I paint only three commissions at a time.

5. Home it comes

We meet up, I deliver within about two hours of Palatka, or I ship it flat.

A gift for someone grieving

A memorial portrait can be a gift for a friend or family member who has lost a pet. If it’s a surprise, send me the photo yourself and tell me the date you need it by.

Questions

How much is a memorial pet portrait?

The same as any portrait: $60 for a 5 × 7 up to $210 for an 18 × 24, for one animal on a solid background. A memorial ornament is $30.

Can you paint from an old or blurry photo?

Send it, along with any others you have. Several photos together often help. If it’s too small or blurry to paint well, I’ll tell you honestly before you pay anything.

Can you include their name?

Yes. I can paint their name into the portrait, for example on their collar.

How long does it take?

About two weeks for a 5 × 7 or 8 × 10, about three weeks for a 9 × 12 or 11 × 14, and four to six weeks for a 16 × 20 or 18 × 24. Mention any date you have in mind.

Tell me about them.

Send a photo and a few words. I reply within two days. Texts are fine, but no calls, please.
